Tailoring Optical Emission from Quantum Dots

29 July 2016. Invited by Prof. Xiulai Xu, Prof. Hanz Y. Ramírez from Universidad Pedagógicay Tecnológica de Colombia visited us and gave a talk on "Tailoring Optical Emission from Quantum Dots".

Abstract: Although advantageous features of quantum dots for implementation of optoelectronic devices are well established, plenty of room to study and understand possibilities for quantum control on optical emission from those zero dimensional systems is still left. In this talk novel schemes for efficient manipulation of nonlinear response and optically active frequencies will be presented. In particular, interplay of static electric and magnetic fields tuning Coulomb interaction in the first case, and expansion of the Hilbert space by adding laser fields in the second scenario, are shown as potential tools to improve optical performance in strongly confined nanostructures.

Curriculum Vitae: Dr. Ramírez received his Ph.D. in physics from Universidad de Los Andes, Bogota in 2007, then continued his research in National Chiao Tung University, Universidad Antonio Nariño, Universidad de Los Andes, University of Science and Technology of China, and he is currently working in Universidad Pedagógicay Tecnológica de Colombia as associate professor.
